Devils Lose One and Tie One at Friendlies

The Northwest Athletic Conference Soccer Friendlies didn't go quite the way LCC had planned as the Devils fall to Peninsula (1-8) and tie with Skagit Valley (1-1).

Devils Soccer got things started on Tuesday, August 22 with a 5:00 pm match vs the Peninsula Pirates. The Pirates are currently ranked number one in the NWAC and it didn't take long for them to show why they deserved that ranking. Twenty minutes into the match Peninsula had a 4-0 lead over the Red Devils. LCC sophomore forward Nataija Blaylock put the Devils on the board with scorcher of a shot from way outside the box to give the Devils some life at the 27:20 mark. Unfortunately, the Pirates would respond with two more goals before the end of the half to give them a 6-1 advantage over the Red Devils.

Lower Columbia made some halftime adjustments and held Peninsula for awhile but the Pirates where able to break through the Devils back line and find the back of the net two more times in the half.
Final score was Lower Columbia 1 Peninsula 8
There were a total of 6 yellow cards handed out in the match, 2 for Peninsula and 6 for Lower Columbia.
LCC Goalie Taylor Wilkinson was credited with 15 saves.

Day two, Lower Columbia faced Skagit Valley with a 4:00 pm kick off.

Devils were looking for redemption from the previous days loss and came out strong, attacking the Cardinals defense. In the 28th minute LCC forward Rhyli Grim powered one in off a free kick from Adalie Schierscher to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. This score would hold through the half.
The second half was a back and forth battle until the 75 min. when Skagit Valley forward, Megan Hurley, hit a shot over LCC goalie, Jade Goulding's, head into the top corner of the net.
Final score Lower Columbia 1 Skagit Valley 1

LCC dominated possession of the ball 62.5% to SVC 37.5%. and out shot the Cardinals 10 to 9 with 7 shots on goal.
There were four yellow cards dished out during the match, three to LCC and one to Skagit Valley.
LCC Goalie, Jade Goulding, was credited with 2 saves on the day and the Tie.

The Red Devils have earned some well deserved time off as their next match is on Wednesday, September 6, at Tacoma Community College in Tacoma, WA. Match is set for a 2:00 pm kick off.
