(Longview, WA) – It was a feel-good Sophomore Night for the five Lower Columbia players playing their final games at Myklebust Gym.
Especially
Paige Mace.
Mace, the sophomore from Cathlamet had an outstanding game leading LCC to a 66-48 victory over the Highline Thunderbirds on Saturday February 25
th.
Mace had 21 points at halftime and went on to score a game-high 27 for LCC. Mace hit 10 of 14 shots, 4 for 6 from distance. She also had three assists and six steals.
Katelynn Forner was also very solid in her final home game. The sophomore from Camas had 11 points, six assists and two steals not to mention her always on-point defense.
Prior to the game Mace, Forner,
Aivine Soakai,
Katie Hanson and
Caitlin Wachmann were honored for two outstanding seasons at LCC, including last year's NWAC Championship.
Lower Columbia head coach
Lucas Myers sent out an all-sophomore starting line-up. Highline jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first five minutes, but the Devils went on a 10-0 run and took charge of the game the rest of the way.
As usual, defensive pressure was the key. Lower Columbia forced Highline into 26 turnovers that led directly to 18 LCC points.
The Devils are 19-7 overall and 9-2 in West Region play. LCC has a chance to get at least a share of the West Region title when they close out the regular season with a 5:30 pm road game at first place Green River on Wednesday March 1
st.
The Gators are 10-1 in league. The Gators would win the division outright with a victory. If LCC wins and South Puget Sound defeats Tacoma, there would be a three-way tie for the West title. In that scenario, LCC would have the #3 seed into the NWAC Championship tournament.
Wednesday's game will be broadcast live on FM 100.7 KLOG in Longview-Kelso. The broadcast is also available on the internet at klog.com.
