(Longview, WA) – The Lower Columbia College volleyball team followed up a West Region championship with a West Regional tournament title.
The Devils swept Clackamas and then came from behind to win an epic match with Wenatchee Valley.
On Saturday November 11
th, the Devils opened the tourney at Myklebust Gym with a 3-0 win over Clackamas. Set scored were 25-16, 25-17 and 25-21.
The LCC sophomores led the way.
Kate Johnson led the attack with 10 kills on a .333 kill percentage.
Paige Chinchen had eight kills and 10 digs.
Kate Onespot-Danforth had six kills, 17 assists and seven digs.
Freshmen
Kendal Collins had eight kills (.368%) and 12 digs. Fellow freshman
Madi Noel led the back row with 17 digs.
LCC punched its ticket to the Elite 8 with a great 3-2 victory over Wenatchee Valley. The Devils jumped out to a 25-18 win in the first set. The Knights then took control with 25-22 and 25-21 set victories. The Devils then got to work taking the 4
th set 25-20 and then won the deciding set 15-10.
The match resembled a prizefight with both teams taking punches and throwing haymakers all day.
The sophomores again were not to be denied. Onespot-Danforth had 11 kills, 24 assists and 13 digs in a huge effort. Chinchen valiantly had 11 kills and 24 digs. Johnson had 10 kills. Fellow soph
Kambree Baker also supplied seven big kills in the huge team effort.
Payton Torrey,
Samantha Farland, and
Brooke Parsons also played key roles in the win.
Alex Tinsley had a nice match with 18 assists and six digs. Noel was doing her thing with 15 digs.
The Devils will travel to Lakewood for the Elite Eight at Pierce College. LCC will take on the South #2 team (Yakima Valley or Edmonds) at 11:00 am Friday November 17
th.
