Last Minute Goal Is A Heartbreaker At The NWAC Final Four

(Tukwila, WA) The Lower Columbia College women's soccer season came to a heartbreaking end in the NWAC Final Four on Friday November 10th.

In a tight match between two equally talented teams, Columbia Basin's Angelina Keister scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute to lead the Hawks over Lower Columbia 1-0 in the semifinals of the NWAC Women's Soccer Championship on Friday at Starfire Stadium.

Keister headed the ball over LCC keeper Jade Goulding from just inside the 18-foot box with time running down. The ball trickled slowly towards the net and Madison Enright valiantly came over to kick it away. The ball just went off her foot and eased into the net for the lone goal which broke a scoreless tie as both teams played sound defense throughout the match.

Both goalkeepers were on their A-game as Angelina's sister, Jayauna Keister, recorded six saves in the shutout. Goulding was strong throughout, making seven saves.

The Hawks had the edge overall for the game in shots, leading 16-8, while LCC had the advantage in corner kicks, 3-2.

Lower Columbia finishes an outstanding season after winning the West Region title, a 13-6-2 record and a trip to the NWAC Final Four for the second consecutive year.

The game could have easily went the other way as the teams battled hard throughout.  The Devils didn't quit in the final minute and stoppage time as they had a shot go just wide and another sail just high off a penalty kick from 30 yards out.  This LCC team played hard to the bitter end.

Playing in their final match for the Devils was Jennifer Baertlein, Jazmine Campbell, Kaylee Slade, Madison Enright, Mikaella Moreira, Jasmari Nolasco, Molly Romanchock, Nataija Blaylock, Taylor Wilkinson, and captains Adalie Schierscher and Koda Hoaglin.  They all had a big part in two memorable years that have put Lower Columbia College into elite status in NWAC women's soccer.

With a talented returning cast and a promising freshman class coming in, the Devils will have plenty of motivation and incentive to return to the Final Four and possibly win a third straight West Region title.
