(Des Moines, WA) – The stat line wasn't good. Except the one that counts.
The Lower Columbia women's basketball team stayed unbeaten in league play with a 47-44 victory at Highline on Saturday January 28
th.
The final score was the real highlight of the day. The Devils shot just 28 percent. Three point shooting was only 12.5 percent. LCC was 54 percent from the free throw line. The team turned the ball over 20 times. But despite all that, the Devils were able to outscore the T-Birds 17-10 in the final quarter to pull out the victory.
The Devils are 5-0 in West Region play, 15-5 overall.
Highline (1-4 in league play) had a six point lead with 9:42 left in the 4th quarter. A 5-0 Red Devil run got the game even at 36-36 with 6:55 left. The teams went back-and-forth until LCC got a decisive 6-0 run with a pair of
Aivine Soakai lay-ins and a
Katelynn Forner lay-in with 1:05 remaining.
Soakai led LCC with 14 points and eight rebounds. Forner had 10 points, six boards and five assists.
Katie Hanson had seven points, five boards and three steals.
The Devils will have to play better when they host the 4-1 Green River Gators on Wednesday February 1
st. Green River has won four in a row and are tied with South Puget Sound for second place behind the Devils.
