(Vancouver, WA) Red Devils Soccer finally played their first 2022 regular season contest on Saturday, September 3, in Vancouver, Wa vs the Clark College Penguins and it it did not disappoint.
The Red Devils and Penguins combined had 35 shots (26 on goal), 17 saves, 8 corner kicks, 14 fouls, and 1 yellow card. In the end the Red Devils prevailed defeating the Penguins 6-3.
Lower Columbia got things started early when
Adalie Schierscher hit the back of the net of a pass from
Nataija Blaylock at the 2:56 mark. Then 3 minutes later Adalie found the back of the next again, this time unassisted.
Clark's Camille Rios got one past Devils goalie Kyle Pires in the 24 min to make it 2-1 Devils.Then LCC's
Bailee Larson found the back of the net off a corner kick by Blaylock in the 41 min. But the Devils weren't done there as less than three minutes later
Jasmari Nolasco knocked one in, assisted by
Lauren Maxfield to make it 4-1 Red Devils at the half.
The action didn't slow down in the second half as both teams came out ready and shooting. It was Clark that struck first in the second half at the 67 min and then again in the 68 minute to pull the Penguins within one.
In the 75 minute LCC's
Alexandra Dolce was given a yellow card but that only fueled the Devils as three minutes later Devils forward
Libby Brown gives the Devils some breathing room with a goal assisted by Nolasco to make it 5-3. The Devils kept pressing and in the 83 minute Brown and Blaylock hook up for the final goal of the match to give the Red Devils a 6-3 victory.
The win puts Lower Columbia(2-0) in a tie for first place in the west with Highline (2-0).
Next up for Red Devils soccer is a home match vs the Highline Thunderbirds on Wednesday, September 7, 4:00 pm, at Nortlake Field.
