Red Devils soccer is off to a great start for the 2022 season. LCC started won their three scrimmage matches with a combined 8-1 score and then on Wednesday, Aug. 17, the Devils opened the NWAC season with a 1-0 win at Southwestern Oregon in non-league play.
Lower Columbia started strong dominating the Lakers in time of possession and controlling the flow of the match. LCC's
Nataija Blaylock had several good shots on goal in the first half but nothing could find the back of the net and the score remained o-o at the half.
The second half went much the way of the first with the Devils offense pressing hard while their defense held strong keeping the play on the SWOCC side of the field.
Sunny Bennion almost broke the tie with a header of an LCC corner but it went just wide of the goal. The Devils kept pressing and it finally paid off when
Bethany Bergholm scored with an assist from
Jasmari Nolasco in the 70 minute of the half.
Red Devils defense put up a wall around the goal refusing to let SWOCC get off any good shots. Devils goal keeper
Kyla Pires had 2 great saves to get the shut out win.
Lower Columbia is set to have their home opener on Saturday, Aug 20, at 10:30 am vs the Douglas Royals.
