The regular season is over for Lower Columbia Softball, concluding on May 13 with a split in Vancouver vs. Clark College.

The Penguins came from behind to win the opener 6-5 and the Red Devils battled from a late two-run deficit, with a 7
th inning rally, to take the nightcap 5-4.

Lower Columbia finishes 22-18 overall and ranked 6
th in the NWAC ratings percentage index (RPI). With a South Region record of 13-11, LCC finished in 3
rd place behind Southwestern Oregon and Mt. Hood in conference play.

The Red Devils open play at the NWAC Championships in Spokane on Thursday, May 19 vs. Columbia Basin at 10:00 a.m. The 16-team, double-elimination tournament ends on Sunday, May 22.

Game one: Clark 6, Lower Columbia 5
A three-run home run by
Sunny Bennion staked the Red Devils to an early 5-0 lead. But that evaporated with a six-run 4
th inning for the Penguins. Lower Columbia had late opportunities to come back, but could not manufacture the big hit.

Mallory Brown had two hits,
Ada Williams added a single and two RBI and
Jade Behic doubled for LCC.

Game two: Lower Columbia 5, Clark 4
Trailing 3-1 headed to the final frame, the Red Devil bats came alive to score four runs and then hold on for the win and split.

Consecutive singles from Behic,
Katie Adkins, Williams (RBI) and Bennion got the 7
th inning rolling for LCC. Brown followed with a deep sac fly,
Jada Cargo-Acosta singled,
Angela Sullivan added an RBI single and
Emily Panush closed the scoring with a sac fly.

Starting pitcher
Rylee Peters worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the Clark half of the 7
th to preserve the win. Peters got the second out on a shallow fly out to Bennion in left field then closed the door by striking out the final Penguin hitter.

Behic and Cargo-Acosta each had three hits and Williams added two safeties and two RBI.
