Game Recap: Softball |

Dramatic Ending To A Sweep Over Centralia

(Kelso, WA) – Katelyn McGough sent a softball into the evening to get the Easter weekend off to a great start.  Her two run, walk-off blast gave the Lower Columbia softball team a 6-4 victory over rival Centralia on Friday April 15th.

It completed a two-game sweep as the Devils won the first game 5-2 behind a complete game four hitter from pitcher Jade Behic.

In the opener, Behic was in control as she did not walk a batter and struck out six Blazer hitters.

Ada Williams got the Devils off to a good start with a first inning two-run homer.  It was the 15th career homer for Williams, but the first at Heerensperger Field in three seasons at LCC. It was the 7th homer of the year for Williams.

Katie Adkins had two hits and an RBI for LCC.  McGough had two hits and Maddie Curaming had an RBI single.

In the second game, Centralia jumped out to a 3-0 lead until the Devils countered with four runs in the bottom of the 4th. Behic's two run dinger was the key hit of the inning and Angela Sullivan had a clutch two-run single.

LCC starter Darby DeRuyter had the 4-3 lead when she was replaced after four innings.  Rylee Peters came back in the circle after an abdomen injury earlier in the season.  Centralia was able to tie the game with a single run in the 5th but Peters closed strong and got the win when McGough hit the walk-off.

LCC had three base running blunders late in the game that thwarted some opportunities, but the scene was set for McGough and the LCC All-American candidate came through once again.  It was the 14th longball of the season for McGough and the 25th in her LCC career.

The Devils are now 8-2 in the South Division, good for second place behind SWOC at 10-2.

LCC is scheduled to travel to Oregon City for a league double header against Clackamas on Tuesday April 19th.
