(Longview, WA) – The Lower Columbia College baseball team won one and lost one over the weekend.
Saturday the Devils defeated Grays Harbor 9-3. The game was originally scheduled for Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam but at the request of Grays Harbor the game was moved to Story Field. The Devils were the visiting team in their home ballpark.
LCC wasted no time as they plated three runs in the top of the first inning.
Kyle Parkman had a two-run single and
Easton Amundson added a run scoring single.
The big frame was LCC's five run third.
Nick Miller drove in two with a single and
Daniel Gernon also had a two RBI base hit.
Michael Schwarz got the victory with five innings of five-hit ball.
Cole Bertram went two solid innings allowing just two singles.
Mac Elske closed it out with two innings of relief.
Sunday the scene shifted to Minnitti Field in Tacoma where the Devils and Titans battled back in forth in a key, early season league matchup. Tacoma scored three runs in the 8
th inning and came away with an 8-5 victory.
Tacoma got to LCC starter
Ryan Pitts with three runs in the bottom of the third. The Devils bounced back with a three-spot of their own in the top of the 4
th. Miller had an RBI single and
Ethan Stacy came up with a big two-run base hit to right field.
Reliever
Brayden Marcum kept the Titans at bay while the Devils had a 5-3 lead after 4 ½ innings. But the Titans got a looping hit to plate two in the bottom of the sixth and the game was tied at five.
LCC thought they had the lead when Gernon hit a home run. But Tacoma appealed that Gernon had missed first base and the umpire called him out.
Marcum ran into trouble in the eight when he issued back-to-back walks after two outs. An infield error by the Devils opened the door and Tacoma scored three unearned runs to get the win.
Stacy led the way with two hits and three RBI's Miller had two hits and a ribbie.
Matthew Schwarz drove in the other LCC run.
LCC begins the four game home-and home portion of the league schedule against the Pierce Raiders. Friday the two teams will meet at the Puyallup Rec Center at 5 pm for a twin bill. The series comes to Longview on Saturday for a 12 pm double header at Story Field.
LCC is tied with Tacoma at 4-1 in West Region play. The Red Devils overall record is 19-6.
