Devils Open NWAC's With Umpqua

(Longview, WA) -- The Lower Columbia women's basketball team begins its quest for the school's first ever NWAC championship Saturday in Everett.

The Sweet 16 opponent will be the Umpqua Riverhawks, the #4 team from the South Division.  LCC and Umpqua will square off Saturday March 19th at 2:00 pm at the Walt Price Gymnasium at Everett Community College.

The Red Devils ran the table in the West, going 12-0 in league play and capturing the championship.  Now the sights are set on the big championship.  The Devils are the 27th LCC team to qualify for the championships. The Devils have appeared in the title game once, finished third once, fourth three times and fifth five times.

Umpqua is led by legendary coach Dave Stricklin, who has amassed over 900 wins in his illustrious career,  He has led the Riverhawks to five title games and two championships.

The teams met in a structured scrimmage setting back in November.

Lucas Myers has led the Devils to the tournament every year since he took over the program four years ago.

The winner of Saturday's game will take on the winner of the Wenatchee Valley versus Whatcom game (12:00 pm).  The Elite Eight matchup would be played Sunday March 20th at 3:00 pm.

Thursday's game can be heard live on FM 100.7 KLOG at 1:45 pm. The broadcast is also on the internet at klog.com.  Viedo streaming will be availiable on a pay-per-view at NWAC Sports Network.
