(Ontario, OR) – The Lower Columbia women's basketball team put a three-game losing streak into the rear view mirror by winning three straight at the Treasure Valley Cross Over in Ontario.
Aivine Soakai was named the tournament Most Valuable Player as the Devils beat Edmonds, Treasure Valley and Southwestern Oregon the weekend of December 16-18.
Lower Columbia 88 Edmonds 55
The Devils avenged an earlier loss to Edmonds this season by coming out strong against the Tritons. LCC led 24-11 after one quarter and scored at least 21 points in each quarter.
Katelynn Forner led LCC with 17 points. Soakai had 16 and
Paige Mace had 15.
Kyla McCallum came off the bench and supplied 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Red Devils outrebounded Edmonds 46-27.
Lower Columbia 71 Treasure Valley 60
The second quarter turned out to be the key to LCC's victory over the host Treasure Valley team. The Devils won the stanza 22-12 and went on to get the victory.
Soakai was again a force. She scored 24 points, pulled down nine boards and blocked two shots.
Bailee Larson scored a college career high 12 points in 17 minutes off the bench. She was 4 for 8 from three point range and also collected five rebounds.
Forner scored seven points and pulled down 13 rebounds from the point guard position.
Lexi Roberts was solid with four points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Lower Columbia 68 Southwestern Oregon 54
The Devils went on an 11-0 run to end the game and turned a close affair into a 14 point victory.
LCC took a 19-3 lead at the outset, but SWOC kept battling back to make it a game.
Mace had 19 points and four assists to lead the Devils. Soakai solidified the MVP honor by scoring 17 points including 5-6 at the free throw line.
Courtney Swan was active with 12 points and six boards.
Lower Columbia won despite going 1 for 18 from three-point land. The Devil defense forced 17 Laker turnovers.
Now on a three-game win streak, the Devils take some time off for the Christmas holiday. The team returns to action Wednesday December 28 at the LCC Holiday Classic at Myklebust Gym.
The Devils (8-4) will take on the Delena Dragons, a team of former LCC and college stars put together when Centralia canceled their season and thus their commitment to the tournament. The game will begin at 7 pm.
