(Oregon City, OR) – There were a lot of factors working against the Lower Columbia women's basketball team on Tuesday November 29
th.
The Devils were playing a perennially tough team Clackamas at their gymnasium. LCC committed 26 turnovers and committed 24 fouls. And they missed 17 free throws. Some members of the LCC team were also fighting cold symptoms.
Despite all that, the Red Devils won.
LCC beat Clackamas 77-69 in a foul-fest featuring 48 fouls. The officiating was tight right from the start.
Lower Columbia got a huge game from sophomore guard
Paige Mace. Mace led all scorers with 21 points but she was all over the floor with seven rebounds, six assists and six steals.
Jazzlyn Novelli had 16 points and seven rebounds.
Both teams had trouble handling the basketball due to defensive pressure. The Devils had 26 turnovers and the Cougars had 24.
The Devils and Cougs also struggled at the free throw line. Clackamas was 11-20 (55%) and Lower Columbia was 20-37 (54%).
Mia Martineau led the Cougars with 18 points off the bench.
Aivine Soakai had 14 points and six rebounds to help the Red Devil cause.
One big factor in LCC's favor was a 50 to 31 rebounding edge.
The Devils are now 3-1 on the young season and they are ready to hit the home floor for the first time on Thursday December 1
st.
The Clark Penguins are in town for a 5:30 pm tip-off. Prior to the game last seasons NWAC Champions will be honored with the unveiling of the teams first ever championship banner in the Myklebust Gym rafters. Members of last seasons team that are able to attend with receive their championship rings. The ceremony will begin at approximately 5:15 pm. There will be a men's game between Clark and LCC at 7:30 pm.
