(Centralia, WA) -- Red Devils soccer defeated the CentraliaTrailblazers 2-1 on Saturday, October 29, solidifying their place in LCC history as the first soccer team to win the Region Championship.
It was a cold and foggy night in Centralia but it couldn't have been more perfect for the Red Devils. Lower Columbia hit pay dirt at the 3 minute mark when
Nataija Blaylock worked her way around the Centralia defender to hit a cross to a waiting
Mikaella Moreira, who tapped it past the diving Trailblazer goalie.
The rest of the first half was a defensive battle as the Red Devils were unable to get past Centralia's goalie who had several great saves throughout the match. It was 1-0 LCC at the half.
It wasn't until the 54th minute that the Devils were able to score again. This time it was Moreira with the assist, finding
Fiona Andrews open in front of the goal and able to get it around the Blazers goalie to make it 2-0 LCC.
Centralia did not quit though and managed to find the back of the Devils net in the 89th minute on a solo run from Blazers forward Hanna Robbins.
But it was too-little, too-late for Centralia as the ref signaled fulltime igniting a Red Devils Celebration.
Lower Columbia finishes the regular season undefeated at 11-0-4. The win also put LCC at 40 points on the season securing first place in the NWAC West Region ahead of Clark (37 pts) and Highline (36 pts).
The Red Devils will now host an NWAC Quarterfinal match on Saturday, November 5th, at 12:00 pm. The match will be held at Chinook Stadium in Kalama. The site is at Kalama High School located at 550 China Garden Rd, Kalama, WA 98625.
Lower Columbia will face either North Idaho or SW Oregon, who will play in a Regional Playoff match on Wednesday, Nov. 2nd.
