The Lower Columbia College Red Devil baseball team is 23-3 after taking four games against rival Tacoma this weekend.
Â
Now the question is….Is the season over?
Â
Grays Harbor College contacted LCC Sunday morning with information that some Grays Harbor players have tested positive for Covid-19. The GH program was put into a 14-day quarantine and so the LCC vs Grays Harbor series has been cancelled.
Â
LCC has been in contact with a team out of the North Division about possibly playing at Story Field on Saturday May 22
nd. That decision will probably not be known until Monday or Tuesday.
Â
If it is the end of the Devil season, what a season it was!
Â
With the sweep over Tacoma, LCC is now 23-3 on the season.
Â
The scores on Sunday were 4-1 and 5-3.
Â
In the first game Sunday at Story Field, the Devils broke a 0-0 tie in the 4
th inning with two runs on RBI single by
Tyler Reese and
Kyle Casperson.
Â
That gave Devil starter
Griffin Henry the lead and he was up to the challenge. Henry went six shutout innings allowing just two Titan hits, two walks and five strikeouts.
Â
Cole Bertram came on in relief and went three solid innings for the save. Bertram gave up just an unearned run and no hits.
Â
The finale Sunday was a great Red Devil rally. Down 3-1 after 5 ½ innings, LCC rolled a four spot.
Matthew Schwarz,
Ethan Stacy,
Drew Steelhammer and
Eric Luchies all had RBI single in the frame.
Â
Starter
Michael Callia Jr. went 4 1/3 innings allowing three runs. The bullpen picked him up.Â
Jeter Larson worked around four hits to blank the Titans in 1 1/3 innings.Â
Alex Bratton then shut the door with  1 1/3 inning of hitless relief.
Â
Saturday in Tacoma, LCC took both games 8-6 and 7-5.
The Devils jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the first game highlighted by Steelhammer's two-run homer.
Â
Starter
Spencer Andersen was in cruise control until he ran into trouble in the sixth and seventh. Reliever
Brody Merritt gave up a run in the 7
th. Bratton gave up a run on two walks, although he did get credit with the victory.Â
Ryan Pitts came on to lock it down with the final two outs.
Â
Grant Sherrod had an RBI double in the game.
Liam Kerr provided some much needed insurance in the ninth with his first college home run.
Â
The second game went into an extra inning international tiebreaker. Tied 4-4 after seven frames, LCC came up huge in the extra inning when
Daniel Gernon hit a two-run double and Steelhammer followed with an RBI single.
Â
Daniel Furman did a good job in relief of starter
Sam Stuhr. Furman got the win with three solid innings allowing just one run and three hits.
Â
LCC went 6-0 in the season series against Tacoma.
Â
Now the waiting game. Is the season over or will these talented Red Devils get another chance to play?
Â
Stay tuned.
