(Longview, WA) -- With Lower Columbia's top two scorers in foul trouble, the Red Devil Bench Brigade stepped up big time.
Lower Columbia got 71 points off the bench in a 114-103 overtime victory over the Chemeketa Storm on Saturday December 4th.
Kyle Gruhler led the reserves with 29 points and 13 rebounds. Gruhler was outstanding hitting 9 of 14 shots and 3 of 5 from distance. He hit 8 of 10 free throws.
The Storm was in control most of the game as they had a 44-36 lead at the half and took a 11 point lead with 12:37 left in the game. When
Dakota Reber and
Sherman Royal III both fouled out in the OT, the Devils got some big shots from
Keylin Vance and
Emanuel Steward in the OT.
Ky-mani Pollard hit a jumper with :09 left in regulation to give LCC a two point lead but Chemeketa's Kieran Pruett hit two free throws with less than two seconds left to tie it. Reber's jumper at the buzzer just missed and we were on to overtime.
The Devils went on a 7-0 run to start the extra session and won by outscoring the Storm 21-10 in the OT.
Pollard had 17 points, five assists and three steals. Steward scored 16 points including a four point play in the OT. Vance fueled the hot start in the OT and finished the night with 14 points and four boards.
Royal had 15 points and five rebounds.
Chase McClain has 28 points for Chemeketa and Jayden Stanley scored 23.
The Devils go to 5-1 on the season and will hit the road for a game at Portland on Wednesday December 8th. Start time is 5:30 pm.
