(Walla Walla, WA) – The LCC women's basketball team faced three tough teams when they played in the NWAC Cross Over tournament in Walla Walla.
They were up to the challenge. But Sunday did see their unbeaten string come to an end.
The Devils beat another undefeated team, downed a solid squad and then saw their rally fall short in a loss to host Walla Walla.
Friday, the Devils took on the un-beaten Linn Benton Road Runners and it was a tussle. Down 32-31 at the half, the Devils used a 19-13 third quarter as the key to the victory. The final was LCC 73 Linn Benton 68.
Michaela Harris continued her spectacular play with 15 points, seven assists and four boards.
Chinedu Nnadi led the Red Devil scoring with 18 points. The sophomore was 6 for 11 from the floor and 3 for 5 from downtown.
Katelynn Forner and
Jodi Noyes had 11 points each. Forner had a double-double as the Devil point guard pulled down 13 big rebounds, six on the offensive glass that extended possessions.
Paige Mace was good down the stretch with some big plays that allowed the Devils to keep LB at bay. Mace had nine points and four assists.
On Saturday, LCC got all they could handle with a Shoreline team that would not go away. LCC had an 11 point lead at the half but the Dolphins chipped away and then took the lead late. But the Devils were able to right the ship and get some big plays to come away with an 84-80 victory.
Noyes had 17 points on 7 for 9 shooting.
Jazlynn Novelli came alive with 16 points including four three pointers.
Nnadi had 12 points, Mace 11.
On Sunday, LCC found itself down 11 points heading into the 4
th quarter against a talented Walla Walla team. LCC got within one in the final minute and had a chance for a tying three in the final seconds but Walla Walla held on for a 61-58 victory.
Harris had the final shot but it was off the mark.
Noyes was a beast for LCC. She had 25 points and seven boards. She was 11 for 15 from the floor showing her ability to work down low, run the floor and hit jump shots facing up.
The Devils perimeter game was off as they were just 2 for 17 from distance.
Schmidt had seven points, nine rebounds and seven block shots. Nnadi scored eight points with four rebounds.
The LCC guards struggled most of the game and Walla Walla was able to take advantage.
Although the unbeaten streak is over, the Devils still took two of three and got better by facing tough competition. LCC is now 10-1 on the season.
The Devils will enjoy the holiday before reconvening for the LCC Holiday Classic on December 28
th. The Devils will open the tourney with Mt. Hood at 7 pm.
