(Longview, WA) – The Lower Columbia College men's basketball team had a good time while playing host for one of the NWAC Cross Over tournaments played December 17-19
th. It didn't end well, although.
The Devils came up with a blow-out win, a come-from behind victory but a disappointing loss on Sunday.
Friday night's victory was decisive over Whatcom. The Devils roared out of the gate to take a 46-22 lead at halftime and completed a 90-62 win over the Orcas out of Bellingham.
Carter McCoy led the way with a college career-high 18 points with seven rebounds.
Keylin Vance and
Dakota Reber had 15 points each. Reber had a double-double as he also pulled down 14 rebounds. Vance complimented his scoring by collecting seven boards.
Cameron Holden had 11 points.
On Saturday, the Devils dug an early hole to Walla Walla but were able to scramble back to only be down by seven at halftime. The team then kicked into gear and outscored the Warriors 46-27 in the second half. The final was 84-72 Lower Columbia.
With
Sherman Royal III out with an injured shoulder,
Kyle Gruhler stepped up his game with 23 points. Gruhler went 10 for 15 from the floor and 3 for 5 from distance.
Vance had another solid game with 17 points and four assists.
Ky-mani Pollard was also in double figures with 12 points.
Sunday saw the Devils take a nine point first half lead over Portland. LCC was in control until the Panthers turned up the heat and were able to tie the game up 48-48 with 10 minutes left. Portland made the plays down the stretch and forced LCC to foul.
The final was Portland 70 Lower Columbia 60.
Gruhler had 16 points to lead LCC. Pollard had 14 points and four assists.
Reber had seven points and 11 rebounds before fouling out of the game.
LCC is now 8-3 on the season as they take their Christmas break. The team returns to action Thursday December 30
th for a morning home game against Bellevue. Game time is at 11 am.
