Devils Volleyball Honors Sophomores and Gets the Win

Before the match vs Centralia on Friday, November 5, Red Devils volleyball recognized nine sophomore players that will be moving on after the season.

The sophomores honored were:
Dessa Cooper from St. Helens, Oregon; Emma Nelson from Gresham, Oregon; Amanda Holm from LA Center, Washington; Kiana Robertson from Milwaukie, Oregon; Jayden Foster of Vancouver, Washington; Josie Dew from Bellingham, Washington; Emily Borgstedt from Ridgefield, Washington; Angela Sullivan from Pasco, Washington; and Camryn Wilson from Olympia, Washington.

After the ceremony it was time for the Red Devils to get to work. Lower Columbia needed the win to maintain their third place standing in the NWAC West Region standings.

The Red Devils started off strong out hitting the Trailblazers .500% to -.032% in the first set, leading to a 25-8 set win for the Devils. This continued into the second set with the Devils earning 13 kills to the Trailblazer 5. LCC went on to take the second set 25-11. Up 2-0, the Devils got a little too comfortable and let Centralia fight their way to a 25-23 win of the third set. But, the Red Devils reset and came out hitting in the fourth set and once again overpowered Centralia 16 kills to 8 to win the set 25-15 and take the match 3-1.

Wilson led the Red Devils with 15 kills, 2 blocks, and 15 digs. Borgstedt had 10 kills and 2 blocks. Foster added 9 kills, 1 block, and 3 service aces. Holm's had 3 service aces also, along with 26 assists and 12 digs. Ashley Noah had 19 assists on the night.

The Red Devils have one more league match on Wednesday, November 10, at Highline. The match time has been changed to a 6:00 pm start time.

If the current NWAC rankings stand, Lower Columbia will be heading east to Pasco, WA for the first round of the NWAC volleyball championships, November 13 -14, 2021.
