Devils Take 3 of 4 From #1 Spokane

Dakota Hawkins and Alex Brady teamed up to shutout the Spokane Sasquatch 1-0 in the first game of a double header on Sunday March 1st at Story Field. The victory clinched a season opening series where the #2 ranked Red Devils took three of four from the top ranked Spokane team.

After a sweep on Leap Day, Hawkins came out and brought March in with a dominant performance.  Hawkins and Spokane starter McKabe Cottrell were hooked up in a marquee pitching duel.  Between them there were 20 strikeouts, three hits and just one run.

Hawkins was blazing as he had a top pitch speed of 93.3 according to Trackman.  The sophomore from W.F. West went six innings allowing two hits, no walks and 10 strikeouts.

Devil lefty bullpen ace Alex Brady came on and went three sparkling innings giving up just one hit with two strikeouts and no walks.  Brady, who got a win in the Saturday sweep of Spokane, collected the three-inning save on Sunday.

Cottrell was equally dominant.  He went seven innings with one hit allowed, 10 strikeouts and no walks.

The Devils scored the games lone run in the first inning when Tyson Guererro hit a double to left, moved up on a passed ball and came in to score on a Shane Jamison RBI groundout.  Hawkins and Brady made it hold up.

Bigfoot avoided a sweep by coming away with a 6-4 victory in the four game series finale. Jordan Summers swung at the first pitch from Devil starter Kaden Vanderwerf and hit a homer to right field.  Spokane scored four runs in the first four innings off the LCC right hander.

While the Devils were shutout for the first six innings by Spokane lefty Cameron Liss, LCC pitcher Alex Bratton kept his team in the game going five frames allowing four hits and two runs.  The Devils erupted for three runs in the 7th to make it a game.  Another run came across in the bottom of the ninth but the tying runs were left stranded.

Grant Sherrod had two hits and an RBI. Daniel Gernon also had two hits.

The Red Devils (3-1) will get back on Story Field on Tuesday March 3rd as they host the Clackamas (1-0) for a 4 pm double header.
