Game Recap: Baseball |

Fanless In Seattle. Devils Win.

There were the players and coaches, Edmonds game management personnel and a handful of scouts on hand to watch the Lower Columbia College baseball team defeat the Tritons 5-3 in 11 innings Tuesday March 10th.

On the directive of the Edmonds administration over the concerns of the COVID-19 virus, the Devils and Tritons played a single game with no fans in the stands.  It turned out to be a very good game and it wasn't decided until LCC right hander Cole Susee closed out the 11th with a fly ball out earning the save.

Tyson Guerrero's RBI single in the top of the 11th turned out to be the game winner. The Devils added an insurance run when Chase Matheny's RBI grounder was misplayed by Edmonds.

Susee walked the first batter he faced in the bottom of the 11th but came back to get two strikeouts and a fly out to end the game.

Tied 1-1 after six innings, LCC took the lead in the top of the 7th on an unearned run. Edmonds tied it up in the bottom of the 8th on a Dawson Bakker solo homer off Broc Selstrom.

The Devils went back up again in the top of the 10th when Shane Jamison doubled, was balked to third and then scored on a wild pitch. But Edmonds rallied against Devil relief ace Alex Brady by taking advantage of two hit batters, and two wild pitches to knot the game 3-3.

Guererro and Matheny came through with the timely at-bats in the 11th which held up. Susee got the victory, the last of six Red Devil pitchers who combined on a six-hitter.

Jamison had two hits.  Matheny had two RBI's. Leadoff man Matthew Schwarz worked three walks and scored a run.

The Devils are now 9-2 on the season as they get ready to travel to Roseburg to take on the Umpqua Riverhawks.  Umpqua has revived baseball and have been playing in front of big crowds appreciative of the college game back in Roseburg.

The series has been trimmed to a three-game set and moved up a day because of weather.  The teams will play at single game at 6 pm at Champion Car Wash Field. The teams will then play a double header at 12 noon on Saturday.
