The Lower Columbia men's basketball team is back with another 20 win season after defeating Highline 77-68 on Saturday February 8
th.
Â
The Devils have achieved the 20 win mark for the fourth time in five seasons. After getting at least 20 wins for three straight seasons, LCC fell just short in 2019 with 19 wins.
Â
Up by nine at the half, the Devils and T-Birds played even in the second half and LCC advanced its record to 20-4 and 8-1 in the West.
Â
Alexis Angeles led the Devils with 18 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Â
Travis Patrick was great off the bench with 17 points, including two spectacular slam dunks.
Â
Samaad Hector continues to climb the charts as one of the great rebounders in LCC history. Hector had 21 rebounds as he dominated the glass. Hector also had a cobra-like dunk as part of his 14 points.
Â
Amiri Chukwuemeka returned to action after missing the prior game with Centralia due to a sore back. Chukwuemeka had eight points against Highline.
Â
Martis Johnson had another solid game for the Devils with 10 points, four boards, four assists and two steals.
Â
Looking at Hector's achievement on the LCC all-time rebounding list, his 21 boards puts him in the number five spot for all-time single season record. Hector passed former Devil greats Randy Sundberg, Gabe Matthews and Tandy Wilbur. Samaad's total of 359 rebounds is two shy of John Lasich in the number four position behind Nate Lewis (411), Mark Herold (396) and Bob Sisul (364). Herold has the LCC career rebounding record with 707 and Hector is now 64 rebounds shy of that mark with five regular season games left.
Â
The next game is huge as LCC will be in Olympia to take on the South Puget Sound Clippers for a share of first place. The Clippers beat the Devils 84-82 in a great game back on January 15
th. The Clippers are 9-0 in league and LCC is 8-1. The teams battle on Wednesday February 12
th in an 8pm game at the Evergreen State University campus.
