The first game was a wild one. The second game was a blowout.
The Lower Columbia College softball team came up with a pair of victories over Big Bend on Saturday April 20
th. The Devils won the first game 9-8 in eight innings and took the nightcap 12-2 in five innings.
It was a slugfest in the opener. Scoreless after 2 ½ innings, the Devils jumped out on top 2-0 on a
Skylar Hunter two-run double. The Vikings tied it at two with a solo homer in the top of the 5
th.
Sarah Russell had a two-run double to put LCC back on top after five. The Devils then jumped on Big Bend for three more runs in the sixth including two sacrifice flies and a
Lauren Lunt RBI double.
But the Vikings came back with five runs in the 7
th to take the lead 8-7. Lower Columbia forced extra innings when
Kami Gray doubled and
Kinzey Williams followed with an RBI single in the bottom of the 7
th.
Using the international tie-breaker in the 8
th, the Vikings left a runner stranded at third. LCC then cashed out the victory when
Skylar Hunter delivered a bases-loaded single to right for the victory.
Russell was 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Williams was also 3 for 4.
Sarah Potwin and Gray had two hits each. Hunter had the big day with three RBIs and two hits including the game winner.
In the second game, the Devils jumped on Big Bend with eight runs in the first inning. Lunt hit a two-run double, Potwin provided an RBI single, Williams drove in a run with a single as did
Valeti Fifita.
Saydie Harris capped off that huge frame with an RBI double.
That was all she wrote.
Russell put a cherry on the top with a two-run homer in the 4
th inning.
Trinity Naugle went the distance allowing just two runs on seven hits.
LCC is now 21-8 on the season and 12-6 in league, The Devils return to action with a huge home double header with first place Mt. Hood on Saturday April 27
th. First pitch is at 12 pm.
