Speed kills and that showed Saturday, December 7 as the Lower Columbia men's basketball team relentlessly attacked the basket, on the way to a 28-point second half lead and eventual 82-68 win over Clark College.
It was the last home non-league game of 2019 and LCC fans were treated to a dominating performance by the Red Devils. Coach
Mickey Polis emptied his bench and saw 12 of the 13 Red Devils play 5+ minutes and score.
Lower Columbia grabbed a 37-19 halftime lead, extended it to 63-35 on a
Taylor Pomeroy jump shot with 11 minutes left in the game and coasted to the win.
Alexis Angeles led LCC scorers with 19 points. The sophomore transfer also grabbed seven rebounds, contributed three assists and had three steals.
Travis Patrick came off the bench to add 14 points, punctuated by a monster dunk late in the first half.
Samaad Hector battled some early foul trouble but still did his thing – 10 points and 11 rebounds, his eighth consecutive double-double.
Amiri Chukwuemeka scored nine points and dished out five assists.
The Penguins, coached by former Castle Rock athlete and later head basketball coach Kevin Johnson, were paced by the 25 points and 10 rebounds of center Matt Garrison.
Lower Columbia is now 7-1 on the season. The Red Devils will take off a couple days for finals week, then head to Los Altos, CA for three-days of play at the Foothill Classic. LCC meets San Jose City College at 8:00 pm on Friday.
