Second Half Rally Keys LCC Win Over Treasure Valley

Trailing by 10 points early in the third quarter, Lower Columbia stepped up the defense and roared back for a hard-fought 68-65 win over Treasure Valley.

It's the fifth straight win for LCC and second in two days at the NWAC Women's Linn Benton crossover in Albany, Oregon.

With the game tied with one second left in the third quarter, Madison Mosier found Danica Schmidt open at the top of the key and the freshman from Alaska beat the buzzer with a three-point bomb to put LCC up 53-50. The Red Devils never gave up the lead after that, although it got close late.

Led by Cherita Daugherty and Mosier, LCC extended the lead to 63-53 midway through the final quarter, before the Chukars rallied. TVCC had possession for a tying shot as the clock ticked down, but Lower Columbia's defense tightened the screws and didn't allow a final shot.

Daugherty filled the stat sheet with 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Mosier scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half.

Schmidt came off the bench to also score 12 points, Melenaite Kata worked hard inside to score nine points and grab four boards and Josie Schmitz scored seven points – including a pair of treys in the third quarter that helped fuel the comeback.

Lilly Kelley led the Chukars (2-3) with 20 points.

The win moves Lower Columbia to 8-3 going into Saturday's game vs. Linn Benton. The Roadrunners and Red Devils will tip off at 4:00 p.m.
