Despite dominating numbers from sophomore center
Samaad Hector, Lower Columbia could not overcome a strong shooting night by Southwestern Oregon and fell to the Lakers 105-102 in overtime. It was the last of three games for the Red Devils at the NWAC Clackamas crossover. LCC now stands 11-3 on the season.
Hector scored 34 points, including 26 in the second half and overtime. He also yanked down 24 rebounds and blocked five shots.
The hot-shooting Lakers made 61.3-percent of their attempts from the field in the first half and 52.7 percent for the game on 78 attempts. LCC got up 101 shots, hitting 40.6 percent.
SWOC led most the first half and was up 52-46 at the break. Lower Columbia bounced back to go ahead 73-72 on Hector's three-point play with 5:14 left in the game. LCC extended the lead to five points with 1:15 left but missed two late free throws and the Lakers tied it up with 17-seconds left, to force the extra period.
Martis Johnson hit a pair of three-point shots for the Red Devils in OT, but SWOC answered by converting two late tough shots and seven consecutive free throws to close out the game.
Alexis Angeles scored 21 points for Lower Columbia, Johnson had 15 and freshmen
Taylor Pomeroy and
Jonah Crumpton-Murray each came off the bench to score 10 points.
SWOC (5-6) was paced by Jael Vaughn's 27 points and 24 from Terryn Mosley.
The Red Devils are now off for two weeks, before traveling to Seattle to meet Shoreline on January 3 at 7:30 p.m. NWAC West play opens at home on January 8 vs. Centralia.
