The Lower Columbia Baseball team made sure that there would be no upsets on the weekend as they took four games from the Green River Gators.
LCC scored 12 runs in the first innings combined as they came away with the four game sweep. LCC beat the Gators 11-1 and 9-0 on Saturday May 5th at Story Field. The Devils then took two on Sunday May 6th at Russell Roads Park in Kent by scores of 9-0 and 9-1.
In Saturday's opener, LCC plated five runs in the first inning to back starter
Mitch Lines who got the win with 5 1/3 innings of three hit ball. Lines truck out six Gators and walked just one.
Rance Pittman came on and pitched 1 2/3 innings of perfect relief.
The big early hit was
DeShawn Johnson's three run homer. It was DJ's first collegiate home run.
Noah Andrews was 3 for 4 with three RBI's.Â
Hunter Cook also had three hits for LCC.
In the second game Saturday,
Yancy Bird and
Spencer Burdick combined on a two-hit shutout. Bird went five innings and allowed just one single with nine strikeouts. Burdick went two innings and allowed just one hits with two K's.
Sam Trend-Beacom hit his team leading 7th homer of the season, a two-run shot.Â
JT Strickler had went 2 for 4 with three RBI'sÂ
Blayze Arcano had a three run double.
The scene shifted to Kent on Sunday and the Devils got another outstanding mound effort from
Jared Akin. The right hander went seven shutout innings allowing just two hits, striking out five Gators. Johnson came on and allowed just one hit and no runs in two innings.
Trend-Beacom had two hits and two RBI's.Â
Chase Hodkinson also had two hits and two RBI's.Â
Trevor Paro and Strickler also had two hits each.
LCC closed out the weekend with
Justin Solt on the hill. The freshman righty went five frames allowing just one hit and one run. He struck out five and did not issue a free pass.
Travis Paynter and
Derek Downey dominated the last two innings. Paynter had a scoreless frame with two punch outs. Downey struck out the side in the last frame.
Ricky Muzzy led the offense in the series finale going 2 for 3 with four RBI's.
Kyle Sandstrom and
Chandler Michalek each had two hits.
The Devils got some help in the standings when Pierce took three of four games against second place Tacoma. The Devils are now 18-3 in the West and 27-7 overall.
LCC has clinched at least second place and are one win away from clinching the school's 40th divisional title.
A four games series with Centralia begins on Friday May 11th, a 5 pm double header at Story Field. It will be Sophomore Night. It's also LCC Alumni Night as Alumni are invited to attend the game for free and enjoy a reception on the Bob's Sporting Goods Party Deck.  Ashtown Brewery will be on the deck to join in the celebration.
The regular season concludes on Saturday May 12th with two games at Centralia. Game time at Wheeler Field is 1 pm. Â
