It was not a normal Monday for the LCC Red Devil baseball team.
Â
With rainy weather forecast for the rest of the week, the Devils went on the road Monday to make up two previously rained out games. It was a two stop, two city road trip.
Â
The day began with an 8-0 victory over the Pierce Raiders at Mount Tahoma High School.Â
Â
Yancy Bird and
Jared Akin combined on a four-hit shutout. Bird got the victory going five innings allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts. Akin was superb in relief, going four frames allowing just one base hit.
Â
GJ Hurst had two big hits to lead the LCC offense. Hurst had an RBI double in the 4
th inning and then blew open the game with a two run single in the 7
th, part of a four run inning for the Devils.
Â
Kyle Sandstrom went 3 for 5 at the plate.Â
JT Strickler capped off the run scoring with a two-run double in the 8
th.
Â
Sam Trend-Beacom had two RBI's on a pair of sacrifice flies.
Â
Following the win over Pierce, the Devils got back on the bus and headed south for a 5 pm game at the Centralia Blazers.
Â
Down 2-1, the Devils took the fifth. Big time.
Â
LCC scored nine runs and hit three homers in the fateful 5
th inning, scoring nine runs in the frame. Lower Columbia won the mercy rule shortened game 13-2 when they plated three more runs in the top of the 7
th.
Â
Sandstrom,
Blayze Arcano and
Ricky Muzzy each hit homers in the big 5
th inning uprising. The Devils were inspired after a physical play at the plate got both teams excited around the home area. The Devils then unleashed.
Â
After a rough second inning where the Blazers scored two runs off him, Red Devil starter
Justin Solt settled down and went six innings to get the victory.
Â
Sandstrom was 3 for 4 with a homer and three RBI's. Arcano was 3 for 4 with a homer, triple and five RBI's. Muzzy went 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBI's.  Â

Â
The Red Devils finish up the single game portion of the West Region schedule with a 4-1 record. The four game series begin on Saturday with LCC at Tacoma in a  1 pm twinbill. The teams will then come to Longview for a 1 pm double header on Sunday.
