Devils Dominate In Sweep Over Grays Harbor


The Lower Columbia baseball team stayed alone on top of the NWAC Western Division with a four-game sweep of Grays Harbor, outscoring the Chokers 58-12 on Saturday and Sunday April 21st and 22nd.
 
The series opened in Longview on Saturday and the Devils won the first game 12-5.
 
Mitch Lines got the start and went 5 1/3 innings, scattering eight hits and giving up just two runs.
 
Noah Andrews had a great game going 3 for 3 with three RBI's.  DeShawn Johnson had two hits and two RBI's.  JT Strickler also drove in two runs on a 2 for 5 day at the plate.
 
Sam Trend-Beacom was on-base all-day as he scored three runs and drove in a run without the benefit of a base hit.  Zach Threlfall had two hits and an RBI.
 
The second game at Story Field went to the Devils 14-2. The game was over after it barely begun as LCC plated nine runs in the first inning.
 
Starter Yancy Bird got the win (5-1), going 3 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and two runs. He qualified for the victory because the game was shortened to five innings.
 
James Grubb finished it up with an inning and 2/3 of scoreless relief.
 
Andrews had another big game as he was 3 for 3 with an RBI.  Strickler was 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBI's.  Kyle Sandstrom had two hits and two RBI's.
 
The scene shifted to Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam on Sunday and the Devils blasted the Chokers in game one 19-0.  The big innings was the nine run third.
 
Trend-Beacom hit his sixth homer of the season in that big uprising. He ended up 2 for 3 with two RBI's.
 
Andrews was 2 for 4 with an RBI.  GJ Hurst had a two-run double and ended up with three RBI's in the game.  Hunter Cook had a hit and an RBI and ended up scoring four runs.
 
Jared Akin cruised on the mound as he went 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball. Akin allowed just five hits, walked none and struck out five.  Rance Pittman got some experience by coming in to get the final out in the shortened seven inning affair.
 
The Devils then capped off the weekend by defeating the Chokers 13-5.
 
Travis Paynter got the victory.
 
Chandler Michalek went 3 for 4 with two RBI's to lead the offense. Hurst was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
 
The Devils go to 11-2 in the division, maintaining first place.  LCC is now 20-6 overall.
 
LCC will host Pierce on Saturday April 28th (1 pm DH), then will travel to Mt. Tahoma HS on Sunday April 29th for a 1 pm twin bill with the Raiders.
