The Devils were looking to bounce back Saturday afternoon after a tough home loss to Tacoma on Friday night. Bounce back they did with a 13-3 win over the Grays Harbor Chokers.
The Devils scored first in the bottom of the 2nd off a single from Freshman
Noah Andrews. In the 4th the Chokers took the lead with 3 runs scored off 5 hits but the Devils answered with 2 runs of their own thanks to a walk, a balk call on the Harbor pitcher, another walk, a hit-by-pitch, a sacrifice fly, and a single by
GJ Hurst. With the score tied going into the 6th Lower Columbia needed their offense to produce. Grays Harbor pitcher Jon Rice walked
Kyle Sandstrom to start the 6th and that was enough for Harbors head coach Mike Bruner to make a pitching change. Fortunately for the Devils it produced the same result has
Sam Trend-Beacom was walked as well.
JT Strickler then got on base with a fielder choice.
DeShawn Johnson then came into pitch hit and hit a double to left field scoring Sandstrom and thanks to an error by the Chokers LF, Strickler was able to score as well. Andrews then hit a double to score Johnson followed by a single form Hurst to score Andrews.Â
The Devils now enjoy a 4 run lead on the chokers going into the 7th, were Andrews hits a Grand Slam to give the Devils a 9 run lead.
Ricky Muzzy then hits a walk off single to end the game by run rule in the 7th. Â
Justin Solt go the ball to start the game and went 5 innings giving up 7 hits and 3 earned runs, striking out 4.
Ryan Kaser took over in the 6th with the score tied striking out 1 but giving up 0 hits and 0 runs to get the win.Â
Andrews went 3 for 3 on the day with 7 RBI's. Johnson was 2 for 2 with 1 RBI. Hurst also had a good day going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI'sÂ
The Red Devils (1-1) are currently at 3rd in the West region behind Pierce(2-0) and Tacoma (2-0). Next up for the Devils is a road game vs Pierce on Wednesday, April 4, at 3:00 pm.
