Kyle Sandstrom kept opening day from becoming a total bummer.
The sophomore center fielder slapped a ball over the left fielder's head for a walk off RBI double giving the Lower Columbia College Red Devils a 4-3 victory over Olympic in the second game of a double header on Friday March 2nd at Story Field.
The Rangers won the first game 5-0.
Sandstrom's double gave new LCC head coach
Eric Lane his first victory as the skipper.
Olympic got a great outing from starter Daniel Tomkiewicz in the opener. The big right LCC's hander went six shutout innings, holding the Devils to just three hits. Ben Tinnell came on to collect a three inning save.
Devil starter
Jared Akin took the loss. After three scoreless innings, Olympic touched Akin for three in the 4th and two in the 5th. Hunter Blunt's three-run homer was the big hit for Olympic.
LCC's
Ryan Kaser appeared for the first time after two years of injury frustration. Kaser went three sterling innings giving up just one hit.
Sandstrom and
Sam Trend-Beacom each had two hits in the opener.
The Rangers jumped out to a 3-1 lead after three innings in the second game. LCC starter
Justin Solt settled down after that. The freshman righty ended up going six innings scattering eight hits for a no decision.
The Devils tied it up with two runs in the bottom of the 4th.
Mitch Lines then came in and shut down the Rangers with three innings of hitless relief. He became the winner when Sandstrom hit the game winner in the 9th.
Noah Andrews had three hits in the second game and Trend-Beacom added two more hits.
The Devils (1-1) host the Rangers (2-2) in another twin bill Saturday March 3rd at 2 pm. The games at Story Field can be viewed live on Devil Vision at: lccreddevils.com.
