Combined No Hitter Highlites Series With Lane

Yancy Bird and Spencer Burdick combined on a no-hitter to lead the LCC baseball team to a 5-0 victory over Lane on Saturday March 10th at Story Field.

It was part of an impressive weekend of pitching for the Red Devils who took three of four games with the Titans.

The series opener was Friday March 9th where Lane came away with a 3-2 victory.  The Red Devils were held to just five hits.  GJ Hurst hit a solo homer to lead the struggling Devil offense.

Starting pitcher Jared Akin deserved better as he took the loss. Akin went five innings of shutout ball before the Titans erupted for all three of their runs in the sixth inning chasing Akin.  Akin went six frames giving up three hits with 10 strikeouts.

Mitch Lines came on to pitch three innings of two-hit shutout ball.

The Devils bounced back to take the Friday nightcap 6-2.  Freshman pitcher Justin Solt was tremendous as he went six innings allowing just three hits and two runs with 10 strikeouts. Ryan Kaser came on and closed the door with three innings of one-hit relief with six strikeouts.

Kyle Sandstrom scored three runs for LCC. He provided an RBI single and walked twice.  Drew Barlow had two hits and an RBI.

Bird and Burdick was masterful in the first game on Saturday.  The freshman right hander from Kelso went seven innings of perfect baseball with no baserunners and four strikeouts.  He was lifted because of a pitch count.  Burdick went two innings of no-hit ball.  He lost the perfect game when an inside pitch grazed the jersey of a Lane batter.

Ricky Muzzy led the offense going 2 for 5 including a solo homer in the third inning.  Sandstrom had an RBI double and Drew Barlow had an RBI single.

The Devils won the series finale 3-2 as Chandler Michalek's solo homer in the 4th frame turned out to be the game winner. Blayze Arcano had an RBI groundout.  The Devils were held to just two hits in the victory.

Starter Zach Horne went four innings giving up just one unearned run with five strikeouts.  Derek Downey got the win in relief after going two innings allowing one run.  DeShawn Johnson got the save with a one-hit final inning of work.

The Devils are 5-2 as they host the George Fox JV's on Tuesday March 13th.  The double header begins at 4:00 pm at Story Field.

LCC will hit the road for the first time as they play four games at Yakima Valley Saturday and Sunday March 17-18.
