NWAC's Ahead After Win Over Tacoma

One of the highlights of the LCC women's basketball game on Wednesday February 28th was the first three seconds of the game.

After introducing and honoring the Red Devil sophomore class, the Devils got the opening tip and quickly called timeout.  That was to allow LCC leading scorer Tywanna Abbott to leave the floor to a big ovation from the home crowd.  Abbott suffered a knee injury in the Devils last road game of the regular season and her status for the NWAC tournament is very much in doubt.  The good crowd Wednesday acknowledged Abbott and the rest of the sophomores in a festive lead up to the game.

Following that early timeout, the Devils at times muddled along but got the job done defeating Tacoma 73-65.  LCC had an 18 point lead at one time but the Titans made some shots to make the score closer at the end.

Cherita Daugherty stepped up and had a big game for Lower Columbia with 23 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.  Daugherty brought big time energy to a Red Devil club that may be feeling the sting of Abbott's absence.

Nizhoni Wheeler had 14 points and nine rebounds.

Madison Crews had 10 points, three assists and two steals in her final game at Myklebust Gym.  Shanay Dotson had nine points and five boards in her final LCC game in Longview.  Hayley Niles closed out her LCC regular season career with four points and six rebounds.

Volleyball star turned basketball player Nina Bailey played solid defense in her last game at home and Jaden Howard also hit two 3's and scored six points in her final game at home.  Bailey will be moving on to the four-year level in volleyball and Howard is on track to graduate this quarter and further her academics.

Freshman Kenya Lorton had seven points and five boards.

The Red Devils finish the regular season at 22-8, 12-2 in the West.  LCC takes the #2 seed from the West and will wait for the NWAC Selection Show on Sunday March 4th to see who they will play in the opening round of the NWAC Tournament March 8th in Everett.
