The 2018 Lower Columbia College softball team got the season underway by taking three of four games played at the brand new Bellevue College softball facility.
 The Devils scored 33 runs in the four games where everybody played and the team got a good look at what is in store this year.
Red Devil pitchers Christine Robbins and Caitlyn Grogan handled the pitching chores and showed toughness through the cold, rain and sleet.

LCC opened the season with a 7-6 victory over Everett. LCC jumped out to a 5-0 lead early, but had to hold on in the end to get the victory.

Kendell Clauson had two hits and an RBI. Alyssa Gustafson provided the big hit in the game, a three run double. Briana Harvill and Cheyenne Gilbertson each had RBI doubles.

Robbins cruised through five innings before running into trouble late. Grogan came in and tried to stem the tide and finally got the last out earning the save.

The second game on Saturday was a thriller. LCC put together a great late game rally including five runs in the bottom of the 7th inning for a 10-9 victory over Bellevue.
Potwin had a bases clearing double before Robbins provided the game winner with a walk-off two run single to spoil the Bulldogs first ever game on the brand new all-turf facility.

Grogan gave up seven runs in the first five innings before settling down and giving her team a chance to come back. Robbins and  Allie Hall had RBI singles in a three run fifth. Sarah Potwin's RBI single and Clausen's suicide RBI plated two in the sixth.

LCC then scored five runs in the 7th to complete the great comeback win.

Sunday the Devils pounded Everett 10-2 in five innings. LCC scored seven runs in the first two innings to take control. Potwin had an RBI single, Gustafson smashed a two-run double, Gilbertson provided an RBI double and the big frame was capped by Skylar Hunter's RBI single.

Grogan went the distance to get the victory.

The final game of the weekend was a cold, sleet filled struggle with Bellevue winning 8-6.Â

LCC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Harvill had two RBI singles as LCC took a 4-2 lead. The Bulldogs then plated four runs in the 4th off losing pitcher Robbins.

The Devils never quit and made it 8-5 on a Cheyann Bartlett RBI double. She scored on an Arielle Burnett ground out to make it 8-6.

LCC goes to 3-1 on the season as they prepare to play four games in the Seattle area March 3rd and 4th. LCC will play two at Highline on Saturday 12 noon. LCC will then take on Shoreline Sunday at 12 noon.
