Pirates Spoil Devils Home Opener

The Lower Columbia women's basketball team took its foot off the gas pedal and allowed the Peninsula Pirates to pillage a 65-62 victory in the Devils home opener on Tuesday November 20th.

The Red Devils had a 22-14 lead at halftime and a nine point lead in the third quarter, but the Pirates scored 51 second half points and took the win.  LCC was outscored 51-40 in the third and fourth quarters.

The Devils shot 36% from the floor and were just 6-25 from beyond the arc.  LCC did out-rebound Peninsula 43-29.

Kenya Lorton had a long jumper at the buzzer that would have tied the game but it fell off the rim.  Lorton had nine points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Nizhoni Wheeler led LCC with 16 points.  Shasta Lofgren had nine points and nine rebounds.  Emily Packham scored 11 for LCC.

Madison Mosier contributed with six points, seven rebounds and four assists in her first college game played in her hometown.

The Red Devils have just two returning players from last season's team as they try and get things running smoothly.  The team will have several practices on both sides of Thanksgiving to get ready for a home game with Clark on Thursday November 29th.  Game time is 6 pm at Myklebust Gym.
