The Lower Columbia College volleyball team took the 5th for the second straight season.
The Red Devils fought through adversity and great competition before being eliminated at the NWAC Championships in Tacoma on Saturday November 17th.
After dropping a 3-0 match to the eventual undefeated champion Spokane Friday morning, the Devils kept the season going with an afternoon 2-1 victory over Blue Mountain. LCC dropped the first set before coming back to win set two and the decider. Ashlynn Catwell led the attack with 14 kills and 16 digs.Â
Haley Paul had 15 digs and
Macey Wright had 31 assists.
The Devils got NWAC Saturday going with a 2-1 victory over league foe Tacoma, again coming back from an 0-1 deficit.Â
Cassidy Thompson had eight kills and 14 digs to lead the way.Â
Paige Moorcroft and
Desarae Reab had eight kills each. Paul had 13 digs and Wright dished out 31 assists.
The season came to a close when Edmonds beat the Red Devils 2-0. Both sets were close as the Tritons came away with set wins 25-20 and 25-22. Thompson had five kills and 11 digs.Â
Megan Miller and Cantwell had five kills each. Wright collected 20 assists.
It was another outstanding season for head coach
Carri Smith and her coaching staff of
Josh Smith,
Morgan Paddock and
Alexa Bond.
The Devils went 30-10 on the season.
Thompson, Miller, Wright and
Maddie Stimmel took part in the NWAC Sophomore All-Star games on Sunday November 18th. All showed very well playing in a Red Devil uniform for the final time.
That group along with fellow sophomore
Maria Teed made a big mark in the history of LCC volleyball as they not only won a ton of volleyball games, they did it with class.
