Coaches will tell you that if you are not ready to play, you will get beat.

The Lower Columbia women's basketball team was not ready to play on Saturday January 27th.

And they got beat.

The Highline Thunderbirds raced around the Red Devils for a 32-17 lead after one quarter and then made plays down the stretch to preserve a 72-65 upset at Myklebust Gymnasium.

The last time the T-Birds were on the LCC court, they got drummed by 60 points in the LCC Holiday Classic. But on this night Highline came out aggressive with confidence and took it right at the Devils.

The Devils showed no desire to play defense in that fateful first quarter.

Sharon Ajayi led the T-Birds with 27 points and 17 rebounds.

Tywanna Abbott had the best numbers for LCC with 18 points and nine rebounds.

The Devils have lost two straight games at home and have fallen to 3-2 in the West and 13-8 overall.

The Devils won't have to stew over the loss for very long as they travel to Auburn to play Green River Monday January 29th. The game was rescheduled from January 10th when the Gators head coach resigned two days before the league opener.  Game time is 6 pm.
