Devils Take Three Of Four From Gators, Remain In First Place

JT Strickler was 6-15 including a monumental blast off the Story Field scoreboard in a four game series with the Green River Gators Saturday and Sunday April 29-30.

The Devils took three of four games, sweeping Saturday's games in Longview 3-2 and 9-2.  The teams split in Puyallup Sunday with Green River winning 8-4 and the Devils taking the series finale 12-1.

In game one Saturday, the Devils held on as the Gators scored single runs in the 7th and 8th inning to make it close.  Trevor Huddleston shut the door with a scoreless, hitless 9th for his third save of the season.

LCC starter Taylor Davis got the win with eight innings of three-hit ball.  He took a no-hitter into the 6th and was outstanding in getting his 7th win against one defeat.

Todd Reese led the offense with a two-run homer in the second inning.  Huddleston hit an RBI double with what turned out to be the game winner.

In the nightcap Saturday, Tyler Parsons went six innings of shutout ball to raise his record to 5-1.  Parsons allowed just four hits and struck out four.

Strickler smashed a deep ball to left center field that caromed of the Red Canoe Scoreboard, just below the clock.  Strickler also had a triple and finished the game 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored.

Kyle Sandstrom was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI.  Corey Conklin had 2 hits in 3 plate appearances and also drove in a run.

The series shifted to Heritage Park in Puyallup on Sunday and the Gators pulled off the upset in the first game.  The Gators used a four run third inning to take control and then added three in the bottom of the 7th to stave off a Devil rally.

Nick Tabura took the loss, giving up five runs (three earned) in 4 2/3 innings.  Huddleston pitched the final 3 1/3, giving up three unearned runs.

Strickler and Ricky Muzzy had two hits and an RBI each.

The final game of the series was all Red Devils.

Jared Akin went five innings, allowing just one run in getting the victory. Anthony Garcia closed it out in an effective non-save situation.

Huddleston had a big game going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's.  Chase Hodkinson also carried a big stick by going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's.  Sandstrom was 2 for 4.

The Devils record in the West is 15-2, tied for first place with Tacoma.

The Devils next league action is this weekend against Centralia.  Meanwhile, the Devils will make up an earlier rainout by adding a non-league home double header with Clark on Tuesday May 2nd.

Saturday's games with Centralia start at 1 pm at Story Field.  It's also an Ashtown Brewing Company event where there will be beer tastings on the Bob's Party Deck beginning at 12:30 pm. It's a 21 and over event with donations going to the LCC Athletics Excellence Fund.
