It's been a long time since a Lower Columbia College men's basketball head coach made a debut.
Mickey Polis made his a good one.
In a grind it out, defensive showdown, the Red Devils opened the season with a 54-39 victory over the Blue Mountain Timberwolves at Myklebust Gymnasium on Saturday November 18th.
The game featured plenty of defensive stops, but it was a 12-0 run in the mid first half that was the catalyst for the Devil win.
Spencer Sweet led LCC in socring with 14 points, hitting four of eight three point attempts. Sweet also had six rebounds and two assists.
Brandon Cotton had 10 points.
Kyle Daugherty tallied nine points with five rebounds.
Wes Gilbert had six points and LCC the Devils with seven rebounds.Â
Alec Canete-Hall gave good energy off the bench with seven points.Â
Donald Scott had four rebounds.
As for coach Polis, he said that is was a defensive fight. "We put some emphasis on defense this past week and it paid off", he said. "now we have to get to work on the offensive side. It was good to get out there and grind out a win in our opener."
The Devils return to the home floor on Friday November 24th when they host Yakima Valley on the first day of the Red Devil Classic. Tip time is 8 pm.
There are 11 games of the Red Devil Classic. Game times Friday and Saturday are 1 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm and 8 pm. The final round Sunday is 12 pm, 2 pm and the title game at 4 pm.
