It was a season that changed the entire dynamic.
Long a scrappy bunch who couldn't quite compete in the upper echelon, the 2017 Lower Columbia College Red Devils proved that they can battle with the best.
The battles ending on Wednesday November 1st when the Lane Titans used two early goals to go on and eliminate Lower Columbia 3-1 in the first round of the NWAC Playoffs.
Lane came out quick as Gwyn Anderson scored one minute into the match. Eight minutes later Callie Lambert scored a goal and LCC was down 2-0.
The teams played even after that.
Kayla Willis got LCC on the scoreboard when she took a
Kate Blackstone-Burgess assist and the Devils cut the lead to 2-1.
Lambert scored again at 28' and the Titans took a 3-1 lead into halftime.
There would be no more scoring as the Devils played toe-to-toe with the talented Lane club.
Lane out shot LCC 6-4. The Titans led in corners 2-0.
There wasn't a dry eye in the LCC huddle following the game as the disappointment turned to pride and accomplishment. Head coach
Harlan Cruser is now officially retired as the Red Devils head coach as he turns the reigns over the assistant
Bryan Vogel. Coach Cruser received plenty of hugs from a team that will wlays be special in Red Devil lore.
Because of the long term work of Coach Cruser and the talent and determination of the 2017 Red Devils, LCC is now a soccer school.
Can't wait for 2018!
