The Lower Columbia soccer team is into the postseason after a 1-0 victory over Bellevue on Saturday October 28th.
Ashlynn Willis cashed in a spectacular header on a sweet assist from her sister
Kayla Willis at the 24 Minute mark and the Devils made it hold up in a victory that sets up a tie-breaker rematch with the two teams Monday October 30th.
LCC played solid defense the entire match Saturday and they seemed to be in control most of the way. But Bellevue also played tough as they were trying to avoid another trip to Longview for a tie-breaker.
LCC keeper
Kennedy Werner had a clean sheet with three saves.
Six sophomores were honored before the match.
Grace Peacock,
Melany Roggow,
Monica Guisinger,
Emily McCoy,
Taylor Sweeney and
Baylee Wright were joined by family members and received accolades and a framed action picture from their time at LCC. Wright, who is due to have ACL surgery in November, actually played in both halves, although briefly to get a tremendous sendoff. All six sophomores did not want to make it their final match at Northlake Field and all contributed to force the playoff.
It was also announced prior to the game that longtime head coach
Harlan Cruser will retire at the conclusion of the season. Assistant
Bryan Vogel will take over as the Devil head coach in 2018.
Cruser couldn't be more proud of his team. It was the Devils fourth straight victory, the first time that has happened in 20 years.Â
Bellevue is back at Northlake Monday October 30th for a 3 pm, winner to the NWAC playoffs match. The winner will travel to Lane for a first round playoff game on Wednesday November 1st.
