Late PK Thwarts Devil Upset Bid At Tacoma

For the second straight match, the Lower Columbia College women's soccer team was right on the edge of pulling off an upset over an elite NWAC West Division team.

Unfortunately, the upset bed fell short again.

Tacoma cashed in a penalty kick with five minutes left and it turned out to be the difference in the Titans 2-1 win over the Devils on Wednesday September 14th.

With the Titans leading 1-0 at the 80 minute mark, Red Devil freshman Emily McCoy collected a PK goal of her own to tie up the match.

Goalkeeper Shelby Vermeulen had five saves in goal.  The Red Devil defense was tough all day and they were not intimidated by the Titans.

The Devils have a tough early run of games in the league play after the matches with Highline and Tacoma. LCC drops to 0-2 in the West, 2-6 overall.  TCC is now 2-0 and 4-3-1 overall.

LCC has a Sunday special next as they take on Grays Harbor in Aberdeen Sunday September 18th at 12 pm.
