The 2016 Lower Columbia College Red Devil soccer team had a decision to make after falling behind 0-2 to Chemeketa on Wednesday August 31st.
They could have quit and accepted that it was an off day. Or they could adjust, come together and compete.
The Devils chose to compete and did so in big time fashion as they rallied for a 9-3 victory at Northlake Field.
Emily McCoy, who played high school ball for Mark Morris on the Northlake Pitch, had a big afternoon as she scored two goals and had two assists. There was plenty of success to go around.
Karlie Eichmeier had two goals and an assist. Other goal scorers included
Haley Briggs,
Baylee Wright,
Grace Peacock and
Taylor Sweeney.
Even Red Devil goalkeeper
Shelby Vermeulen got into the goal parade. Vermeulen, who earlier had an assist while in goal, came out on the field as a position player and cashed in on a late penalty kick.
It was a fun day for the Devils who dominated the action after the sluggish first 20 minutes.
LCC goes to 2-1 on the season and will turn around and play another match on Thursday September 1st. The Columbia Basin Hawks and Red Devils will meet in a 3 pm game at Northlake Field.
