The 2016 season opened with six straight wins for the Lower Columbia College baseball team.
The Devils swept the competition at the Three Rivers Classic at Story Field on March 4-6. The event began with the return of former Red Devil player and long time assistant coach Grady Tweit, the first year skipper for Skagit Valley.
The Devils were glad to see coach Tweit, but they weren't in a giving mood on the field.
Here are the results of the Red Devil action on the first weekend:
LCC 1 Skagit Valley 0Kade Kryzsko kept the Skagit Valley (0-1) off the board during his six innings of work and the Lower Columbia (1-0) beat the Skagit Valley, 1-0.
Kryzsko allowed one hit, one walk and struck out four. Kryzsko took a perfect game into the 5th and lost his no-hit bid in the 6th.
Cameron Campbell drove in the game winner with a sixth inning RBI single.
LCC 4 Skagit Valley 4A walk-off double from
Lorin Archibald brought home the winning run for the Lower Columbia (2-0) in a 4-3 victory over the Skagit Valley (0-2) at David Story Field on Friday. Archibald went a perfect 2-2 at the plate for the Lower Columbia. He singled in the fifth inning and doubled in the ninth inning.
Toby Johnson had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He singled in the seventh inning and doubled in the fifth and ninth innings.
Anthony Garcia pitched lights out for the Lower Columbia. The Skagit Valley managed just two hits off of Garcia, who allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out five during his four innings of work.
Lower Columbia was sparked by Archibald and Johnson, who teamed up for five hits and four RBIs.
LCC 3 Skagit Valley 2The Skagit Valley (0-3) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 3-2 to the Lower Columbia (3-0) on Saturday. The Lower Columbia took the lead in the fifth inning on an RBI double by
Cameron Campbell.
Toby Johnson reached base two times. He scored one run and had one RBI.
Max Tilton recorded his first win of the year for the Lower Columbia. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered five hits.
LCC 6 Skagit Valley 4Garrett Myers drove in three runs, helping the Lower Columbia (4-0) to a 6-4 victory over the Skagit Valley (0-4) on Saturday at David Story Field. He singled in the seventh inning and doubled in the eighth inning.
The Skagit Valley couldn't get anything going so long as
Colin Brown was on the hill. Brown held the Skagit Valley hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out two. Stephen Hansen reached base four times in the game for the Skagit Valley. He scored one run and had one RBI. He homered in the first inning and singled in the fourth inning.
LCC 12 Skagit Valley 6The Lower Columbia (5-0) jumped out to an early lead on the Skagit Valley (0-5) and captured a 12-6 victory on Sunday at David Story Field. With eight runs in the first three innings, the Lower Columbia left no doubt about the eventual outcome.
An RBI single by
Riley Higgins, a three-run double by
Toby Johnson, and a two-run double by
Kade Kryzsko during the second inning supplied the early offense for the Lower Columbia.
Higgins racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Lower Columbia.
Ryan Kaser improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Lower Columbia. He allowed three runs over five innings. He struck out six, walked four and surrendered six hits.
LCC 5 Linn Benton 2Justin Hughes went 2-4 as the Lower Columbia (6-0) took home a 5-2 victory over the Linn-Benton (4-3) at David Story Field on Sunday.
He singled in the fifth inning and doubled in the sixth inning. Garret Myers provided a two run single and
Lorin Archibald had an RBI single during a 5 run 5
th inning that broke up a scoreless duel at the time.
Alex Torson got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six, walked one and surrendered six hits.
Trevor Huddleston pitched well in relief giving up just one hit, no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during his 2 1/3 innings of work.
Taylor Davis came on in the 9
th to collect the save.
The Devils return to action Friday March 11th with a 3 pm double header against the Lane Titans at Story Field. The same two teams play a 1 pm twinbill at 1 pm, also at Story Field.
