The Mt. Hood Saints came back to Story Field for the first time since Lower Columbia beat them for the NWAC title last May.
The Saints got a small measure of revenge when they beat the Devils 8-2 and 7-6 in a non-division double header on Tuesday March 29th.
It was the final tuneups for both teams before region play begins on Saturday May 2nd.
JT Williams hit a grand slam in the 5th inning, the big blow for Hood.Â
Anthony Brink got the start for LCC and struggled early before settling down after Hood plated two runs in the first inning. Brink went four innings allowing four hits and three runs, two earned.
Trevor Huddleston came on in the 5th and gave up Williams slam. Huddleston went three innings, giving up six hits and five runs, four earned.
The Devils had trouble getting any offense going.Â
Ryan Engquist was the only Devil with multiple hits as he went 2 for 3.
Similar to the first game, Red Devil nightcap starter
Todd Reese scuffled early before settling down. Reese gave up two in the first then blanked the Saints the rest of his outing.
Reliever
Colin Brown came on and gave up five runs in 3 2/3 innings. Isaac Benard hit a three run homer off Brown, who was saddled with the loss.
The Devils hung tough and rallied with four runs in the 5th and two in the bottom of the 7th to extend the seven inning game to extras.Â
Steve Robinson's two-run double tied the game in the 7th.
Mt. Hood scord the eventual game winner with a run in the top of the 8th off
Jake Roes, charged to Brown.
Garrett Myers had two hits and two RBI's for LCC.
Taylor Davis and
Lorin Archibald also had two hits each.
Hayden Gerlach drove in two runs.
The Devils will flush the losses and get ready for West Region play. LCC will play a 1 pm single game against Pierce Saturday April 2nd at Mt. Tahoma HS in Tacoma. LCC will then host Green River in a 1 pm single game on Sunday April 3rd at Story Field.
