It was an emotional time for the Red Devil women's basketball team as the season came to an end with a 74-60 loss to Wenatchee Valley on the trophy day of the NWAC Championships in Everett.
It was especially emotional for the three Devil sophomores who played thier final games for LCC and the teammates and coaches who will miss them dearly.
Katie Hankins closed her great two years with 20 points and six rebounds against the Knights. Hankins hit 10 of 17 shots and her outstanding play at the tournament earned her All-NWAC Tournament 2nd team honors.
Katerina Brejchova had four points, three boards, three assists and three steals in her final Devil game.Â
Nesija Selava closed out her LCC career with three points, a steal and an assist.
Down 19-11 at the end of one quarter, the Devils went on a run to tie up the game. But the Knights used thier size advantage to take control of the boards and go on to the victory. Wenatchee Valley outrebounded LCC 74-60 and the Knights scored 19 points off LCC turnovers.
Samantha Boyce,
Carissa Cannon and
Faye Chartraw had seven points each.
Shayla Johnson had 19 to lead Wenatchee Valley.
By all measures it was another outstanding season for Lower Columbia as the Devils won the West championship with a 13-1 record and reached the Final Four in the championship tournament. LCC ended the season with a 23-11 record.
There are nine freshman players who will have the opportunity to return next season, trying to advance even further.
As for Hankins, Brejchova and Selava they have solidified thier place in history as great people and great student/athletes. It will be tough to replace them.
