Peninsula's Big Second Half Ends Devils Title Run

Everett -- The Lower Columbia women's basketball team used a sound strategy to get the defending champion Peninsula Pirates attention.  It lasted most of the first half.

In the NWAC semi-finals on Saturday March 12th, Peninsula defeated LCC 66-44 at Everett CC. The Devils will play Wenatchee Valley in the third place game Sunday at 1pm.

The Devils sat in a zone and forced the Pirates to shoot from the outside. They also made sure to get back and keep the Bucs from running.  It worked as Peninsula was 0 for 10 from beyond the arc in the first half and just 30 percent.  With the score tied at 21, the Pirates got two big buckets in the final seconds of the first half to take a 25-21 lead.  At that point, the momentum was all with Peninsula and they took control with a 24-11 third quarter advantage.

Keahi-lele Roy had 10 points to lead LCC. Bailey Hockett and Carissa Cannon had six each.  Katie Hankins was held to six points, but led the Devils with eight rebounds.

Imani Smith had 18 to pace the Pirates.

The Devils final game on the final day will put an end to another outstanding season. It will be the final LCC games for Hankins, Katerina Brejchova and Nesija Selava.
