There was no shortage of athletic players putting on a fast and furious display at the NWAC Cross Over in Longview December 16-18, 2016.
In a revamped, four team format, this particular Cross Over was entertaining. Shoreline has plenty of high-flying,ultra quick players. Walla Walla features athletic long range bombers who never seemed to miss. Portland has a load of very athletic players. The host Red Devils features strong, quick athletes who entertained the patrons.
The only bummer of the weekend was two close losses by the Lower Columbia team.
On Friday December 16, Shoreline came out and avenged a previous loss to Walla Walla by downing the Warriors 97-74. The Red Devils then took care of business with a 76-63 victory over Portland.
Devin Johnson led LCC scorers with 21 points.
Spencer Sweet had 15 points and six rebounds.
Marcus Lord had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Keun Palu-Thompson had 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Elijah Cotton-Welch scored seven and led the team with six assists.
Saturday, Portland pulled off a 74-68 upset of Shoreline. Walla Walla and Lower Columbia then hooked up in a shootout won by the Warriors 99-93.
Gabe Porter paced the Warriors with 35 points, hitting nine of 20 three point attempts. Johnson had a monster game for LCC with 30 points and 13 rebounds.
Palu-Thompson was outstanding with 25 points. Lord had 14 points and
Brandon Cotton continued his emergence with 13 points.
On Sunday, Walla Walla defeated Portland 93-67. Shoreline capped off the weekend with a 74-70 win over LCC. Dana Abe had 30 points for the Dolphins.
Johnson had 17 points and eight rebounds against Shoreline. The game featured 50 fouls and the Dolphins outscored the Devils 25-19 at the free throw line.
Sweet had 14 and Cotton added 11 including four steals.
The Devils take some time off for Christmas before returning to Longview for a game with its Alumni team on Thursday December 29th at 8 pm. LCC will then host Clark for a game Friday December 30th at 7 pm.
LCC takes a 7-4 record into the holiday break.
