Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Devils A Winner Back At Home

The Lower Columbia College women's basketball team had just one practice on their home floor prior to hosting South Puget Sound on Saturday January 31st.

Although the Devils may still be getting used to the new environment on offense, defense got them through.

The Devils beat South Puget Sound 50-39 to go 9-0 in league and 16-7 overall.

LCC shot just 32 percent and just two for 22 from behind the three line.  But the defense held the Clippers to 31 percent from the floor.  LCC also rebounded the Clippers 50-39.

Kaylea Knox scored 14 points with four rebounds and five assists. Sierra Richards had 10 points and seven rebounds.  Kaitlin Lewis had nine points and six rebounds.

At halftime, former point guard Red Devil Sandy (Cerkan) Crews and former coach Jan Karnoski were introduced to the crowd just hours prior to induction in the Red Devil Hall of Fame.

Former Red Devils Jess (Grubb) Christian and Lacey Nobles were also on hand for the ceremonial opening tip honoring their vision as student government leaders 10 years ago. Both were responsible along with Beth (Smith) Skinner for implementing the funding plan that made the new Fitness Center and remodeled Myklebust Gym a reality. The game official, former Red Devil Brithany Lassiter, threw up the first ball back in her old stomping grounds.

It was a magical, if not somewhat agonizing return for the team. The new facilities are great, but the Devils struggled to get past the upset-minded Clippers.

Not the attention turns to a key road game at Highline on Wednesday February 4th. Game time is 6 pm.
