Red Devil Sophomores played well in their final home games
DEVILS PLAY WELL ON SOPHOMORE DAY
Eight Red Devil sophomores played their final home games on Tuesday May 6th. And they played well.
The LCC softball team split a double header at home against the Clackamas Cougars, winning the first game 6-5 and dropping the second tilt 7-4. Prior to the game, eight LCC sophomores were honored for their achivements on the field and in the classroom.
Sophomore
Sonny Dorhofer pitched well in the opener, settling down after giving up two runs in the first inning. She then kept the Cougars off the board for four straight innings before she came up with clutch outs during a late Clackamas rally.
Sophomore Annie Binschus had a big two run double and went 2 for 4.
Chelsey Miller had two hits and an RBI. Sophomore
Jessica McDonald also drove in a run. Sophomore
Haley Hibbs also had an RBI basehit.
Chelsey Miller got the Devils off to a good start in the second game as she hit a solo homer in the first inning. But Devil starter
Julia Breidt ran into trouble when the Cougars plated four runs in the top of the 2nd, including back-to-back home runs.
Miller added another RBI double in the game. Sophomore Ashley Wells also had a hit and an RBI.
Amber Gilbert pitched very well in relief, allowing just two earned runs in six innings.
Sophomore
Kyla Alley didn't have any hits to show on the stat sheet, but she hit the ball well. She also made a great catch up against the fence.
The Devils playoff hopes are still alive, but they need some help. LCC travels to Coos Bay, Oregon on Friday for a double header with Southwestern Oregon. The Devils need to sweep and hope Clark can sweep Chemeketa.
